About Pediatric Associates of Charlottesville, plc

Fresh out of pediatric residency training, Drs. Ray Ford and Vito Perriello looked to Virginia to establish a general pediatric practice. After investigating an option in Roanoke, they settled on Charlottesville where they met Dr. Charlie Gleason, a pediatrician in private practice. The three combined forces with other local pediatricians, Drs. Paige Booker, Jeff Boozer, and James Wood to form Pediatric Associates of Charlottesville in July, 1971. Dr. Gleason insisted on taking Medicaid patients and opening an Adolescent Center, both unheard of for a pediatric practice at the time. The founding pediatricians were set apart from others in the field by their commitment to patient accessibility seven days a week, evening office hours, and multiple ancillary services within the same office. Since the founding of PAC, the mission has remained the same: to take care of the children of central Virginia in the best possible way.

As our practice has moved into the 21st century, we have recognized how large an impact global climate change has on our patients and have moved to make changes for a more sustainable practice. Our largest project to date has been establishing composting at our Downtown Office and moving toward compostable or reusable products in our break room.

our partnership with the green business alliance

We are excited to join the Green Business Alliance to utilize the knowledge and resources that are already out there to make our business more sustainable. Climate change has a disproportionate effect on the health of children and, as such, we would like to lead through example for our families. We are looking forward to figuring out ways to reduce our energy expenditure throughout the working day and overnight. Additionally, we would like to explore the option of solar power for our buildings, as well as have some green spaces for flowers or a garden. “The Green Business Alliance will allow us to harness the knowledge of many to help our business move forward in a more sustainable way,” Amanda Jones, MD, managing partner.
